Everything should be one thing!
You know what I’d like to see? I’d like to see all the great minds of every creative medium we have come together and make something. "...something extraordinary. Something big, something mega, something copious, something capacious, something cajunga." I’m not talking a movie, or a series of movies, or a series with a couple video games to go with it. I’m talking movies (drama, comedy and action), TV (everything but "reality TV" [otherwise known as bad gameshows]), comics (web, newspaper and books), music (everything from Amy Grant to ZZ Top -- all genres), artwork (paintings, sculptures, digital mediums, anything else), video games (from E to M, console, PC, arcade, and handheld), books (as big and daunting as shelf-drooper novels to as small and friendly as children’s books), tabletop RPGs and anything else you can think of!
Bigger than The Matrix, bigger than Star Wars, bigger than The Lord of the Rings. Every part of it is different and an independent piece. You won’t have to have read comic V3#27 Heroic Havoc of Heimdrac to understand what happens in the children’s book The Puppy and Lionel. A whole new world, created from scratch with wholly original ideas, raw creativity, desperate imagination... oh, and love. LOTS of love. An epic. Something that sprawls across every outlet that reaches us. You don’t have to experience it all, just what suits you best, and it would be just as satisfying to only see/hear a little as it would be alot.
Rain down your naked creative juices upon our collective heads, and let us bask in a beauty that can only be found in dreams!
A tremendous, impossible undertaking, I know. But this is a LiveJournal entry. Nothing here should be realistic. The only real stuff that should be in public view is, like, the news. REAL news, WORLD news. Like, "Hey, guess what? Yeah, we invented a new kind of human out of squid DNA. Yeah... it’s 18 times as strong, can breath underwater and... uh... yeah, it’s scary... they can turn invisible, basically." Not this Terri Schiavo, Scott Peterson GARBAGE that we’re forced to see, against our will. ...anyway...
How would something like this even BEGIN production? Yuk... the hard part. Well, basically you get a WHOLE BUNCH of organizations involved. Anything and everyone. Get McDonald’s, Coke, GM, Proctor & Gamble, Enron, WalMart, Disney and anyone else who owns our lives to get in on it. Whoever wants to slap their names on this Titanic undertaking. Let them scour the creative process with their not-so-subliminal messages of corporate takeover. Is it selling out? No, it’s getting it done! Is it your "artistic integrity" that’s at stake? Come on. I respect that idea, I really do. But, really, we all have to make concessions to make things happen. Any creative thing that has been done or will ever be done has been marred by some mass-choking higher corporate entity. I’m sure even Homer had to go to the market and ask a few favors from the local, well-to-do goat seller to get an audience rounded up. We’ve put up with commercials and billboards our whole life, we should be able to sacrifice a few things to get something THIS BIG started.
But beyond selling out, what if any common individual who was interested in the idea could partake of this endeavor? It should be kept relatively hush, but let people know enough to invest! Eeeeeh? Think about it... webcomics have "micropayments", right? Basically, "send me a little money. If all of my fans out there send me just a little, I’ll have the money to keep doing what I’m doing, and they get what they want." Like paying for what you enjoy, only the money goes straight to production! But they would get more! This would be like the stock market. Their investment is kept track of. It could equal free tickets, merchandise, volumes, CDs or even CASH (like a good investment in the stock market). Of course it would need an excellent producer to put out only enough hype to get the right amount of money in and not over book, and end up with bonds we cant pay back.
Oy, I wish it could happen. Don’t you? How could we get this to even get a peek at fruition? Does anyone know both Bill Gates and Steven Spielberg as close, personal friends? Hm... It’s fun to dream. I like my imagination.
